K9APE® Machine
Vision Inspection Systems are readily adapted for inspection of cylindrical
products. Inspection can occur during or after the manufacturing process.
The images shown below are of a ~3.5 inch (90
mm) long portion of the surface of a specialty thin-coated metal cylinder
measuring 1.1 inch (27.9 mm) in diameter and 13 inch (330.2 mm) in length. The
objective of the inspection is to identify the presence and location of surface
blemishes in the coating.

Each pixel corresponds to a 0.00173 inch
square on the surface of the cylinder. The total captured image is ~4 Mbytes in
size and covers ~3.5 inches (90 mm) of cylinder length. Four images are
required to inspect the total surface of the cylinder. This can be accomplished
by moving a single camera in about 2 seconds.
