FOUR GREAT CHICAGO COLLECTORS

by Suzanne L. Epstein, Ph.D.

Four Great Chicago Collectors is the title of a Color Digital Iimage illustrated lecture on:

BERTHA PALMER

MARTIN RYERSON

ANNIE COBURN

FREDERIC BARTLETT

These four Chicagoans created extraordinary art collections.

Among their acquisition were many masterpieces of French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism - some of which were considered to be shocking examples of avant-garde art at the time they were purchased by these perceptive collectors.

This lecture will focus on the lives of these four individuals and on the development of their splendid collections. Today, many of their acquisitions are among the greatest treasures of the Art Institute of Chicago because of the generosity of these four remarkable Chicagoans.
