THE ARTIST IN THE GARDEN

The Artist In The Garden is the title of a color-slide illustrated lecture on some of the many different ways in which artists of the Western world have rendered flowers and gardens during the last 2,000 years.

Featured in the lecture will be flowers and gardens in Roman frescos, Medieval manuscripts and tapestries and Renaissance paintings. Seventeenth century Dutch flower paintings will also be discussed as will 19th century American and European flower and garden paintings. The lecture will conclude with a demonstration of the diversity of ways in which several 20th century artists have chosen to depict the floral motif.
